Here at Office1, we believe that the foundation of our success is rooted in our incredible and highly talented team. In our "Inside the Office" series, we get the opportunity to put a spotlight on the people who keep innovating in order to push Office1 to new heights. This month, we get to know Field Service Engineer Darryl based out of Los Angeles.

Darryl, what do you do for Office1?

I am a field service engineer. Basically what I do is I'm like a technical fireman. My job is to show up and make sure our customers don't hate their copier. When people call in they are irritated and unhappy so I do my best to make their day better.

Do you have any nicknames?

No, I don't have any nicknames. Closest thing I have to a nickname is that my wife calls me by my middle name.

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Gardena, CA. I lived there from the time I was one or two years old until I was around 30. My parents still live in the same house I was raised in.

If you could pick a superpower, what would you choose?

I would probably choose a healing power. So many powers are superficial but healing is more practical and something you can use day to day.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Growing up I probably wanted to be a pro athlete but I was a runt up until high school so that never materialized. Everything that I did from a young age revolved around sports. I started bowling from a young age, I got pretty good and considered going pro. I got to semi-pro but it takes so much time and money to get to that level but if you don't have someone backing you then it's hard to make that leap.

What was your first job?

My first job was as an ice cream scooper at Thrifty's. When I first started there, a scoop of ice cream was 35 cents, now I think it's around $3.

What is your favorite part about living in Los Angeles?

My favorite part about living in Los Angeles is the access to everything. I have access to sports, the beach, the mountains. I have access to incredible weather. In L.A., you are within two hours of anything you want to do. It has close proximity to everything.

What is your favorite thing about working for Office1?

I would say probably the people. At some point throughout the day, there's somebody that I talk to that makes me laugh or I make them laugh. The family atmosphere is my favorite thing about Office1.

Pick one of the three O's (Origin, Operation, Opportunity) and tell us what it means to you?

I'll go with opportunity because that's what everybody wants. The opportunity to success, the opportunity to survive, the opportunity to make money. That's the basis of America and that is why we are here.

What’s the biggest project on your to-do list right now?

I'm working on a Ricoh Production C5100. It is jamming when they are doing their booklets. It's some sort of timing issue that they have been dealing with for a few months now. I'm going through trying to rebuild the exit unit. They are a training center that runs on training booklets, when they have these issues, they can't make their booklets. That is a big problem.

What excites you the most about technology?

Being able to see the new things coming is exciting. When you see the next versions of copiers coming out, you wonder what was updated about the latest copier and determine if it is better than before.

What is your biggest pet peeve?

I would probably say laziness. If you're lounging around on a Saturday, that's fine but laziness on the job is a different story and it puts stress on everyone else on the team.

What do you like to do in your free time?

My free time during the school year I'm trying to help my son with his homework. My wife and I will watch sports, especially with football season coming up you know what I'll be doing for the next four months. Sports and movies, that's what we do, especially football.
